TitanCell unveiled at IODS 2026 — A self-contained production cell for large-scale additive manufacturing

Western Australia's advanced manufacturing capability took a significant step forward at this year's Indian Ocean Defence and Security (IODS) conference, with WA Premier Roger Cook and Defence Minister Paul Papalia officially unveiling the TitanCell, Hyperion Systems' deployable large-format additive manufacturing cell.

The public debut of the TitanCell at IODS marks the first time the system has been presented to defence industry and government stakeholders.

A Factory That Goes Where It's Needed

The TitanCell is a self-contained large-format additive manufacturing system housed within a standard ISO shipping container. It is designed to be transported by road, sea, or air and brought into operation within 24 hours of arrival, at ports, naval bases, shipyards, forward operating sites, or remote industrial locations.

The concept addresses a fundamental limitation of conventional advanced manufacturing: production has historically been locked to fixed, centralised facilities. The TitanCell decouples manufacturing capability from location entirely, enabling Hyperion to produce large-format components and structures at the point of need, without dependence on established supply chains or fixed infrastructure.

How It Works

At the core of the TitanCell is a multi-axis robotic extrusion system capable of depositing material at rates of up to approximately 30 kg per hour. The system uses AI-enabled print path optimisation to manage complex geometries and maintain production efficiency across extended print runs, and is supported by Hyperion's remote diagnostic and monitoring infrastructure, meaning the cell can be operated and supported from a distance with minimal on-site technical overhead.

Two variants are available. The TitanCell 20ft offers a print volume of 4m x 2m x 2m within a standard 20-foot container footprint — sufficient to produce a 4.6-metre vessel hull in approximately 40 hours. The TitanCell 40ft extends the build envelope to 8m x 2m x 2m for larger components and higher-volume production scenarios. Both variants share the same deployment time of under 24 hours and the same extrusion rate.

Operational Flexibility at Scale

The TitanCell is available through an OPEX-based access model, giving organisations the ability to deploy advanced manufacturing capability in-region without purchasing the full system outright or building the complete capability stack themselves. Hyperion manages deployment, configuration, testing, and ongoing technical support through its Hyperion Grid remote support infrastructure.

Rather than relying on centralised industrial facilities to produce critical components and platforms, operators can establish production capability closer to where it is needed, reducing logistics dependency, compressing lead times, and maintaining sovereign production continuity in contested or disrupted environments.

Anchoring Australia's Sovereign Manufacturing Network

The TitanCell is the physical foundation of Hyperion's broader Manufacturing-as-a-Service model, a distributed national network designed to bring advanced production capability to wherever it is required across Australia and the Indo-Pacific.
